In Brief: The Best Ali Farka Toure Moment

Karaw, on the album Festival in the Desert, was the first song by Ali Farka Touré I ever heard, and years later it still blows my mind to listen to this piece of music. I won’t attempt to describe it or symbolize it with language; listen to it for yourself. The important thing to describe, however, is the time I played it for a little kid in Hampshire College’s Music & Dance Building: he started dancing around and kept shouting “rock and roll! rock and roll!”
