Against The Divorce Agreement For America

Reading this drivel just makes me wish there were no borders at all in the world, no conceptions of race, gender, or entitlement; that there were equal labor laws for all human beings, a universal minimum wage, a worldwide democracy, and—far more vaguely utopian—the freedom for everyone to go everywhere and do everything.

(everything good, I mean…)

These sorts of Civil War-era ideas are probably just as popular among American liberals as they are among conservatives—I know my own parents have talked about moving to Canada, and I believe there was actually a bit of a brain drain during the latter half of Bush’s long dark stagnation. I used to subscribe to these notions, but a hefty dose of worldliness has convinced me that people everywhere should try to work, and stick, together.
